  2. Order
    1. Bavarian interlibrary loan: Use the library catalogue (opens new window). The collection of Bavaria is displayed in the second column of your result list.
    2. German Interlibrary loan: If there have been no results in the Bavarian collection, you may use the free request form.
  3. Fetch

The medium will be sent to HNU library. You will receive an e-mail as soon as the item can be fetched at the library service desk.

    • Interlibrary loan: loan periods and loan period renewals are determined by the owning library. Please keep the red slip within the corresponding book because we need the slip in order to process your borrowed medium.
    • Copies: You can keep copied book chapters and journal articles. Please pay the copy fee at our self-payment station by inserting your Campus Card. The following steps do not apply to copies.
  4. Renew loan periods

Loan periods of interlibrary loan media can only be renewed by the library staff. Please contact us via e-mail if you want us to check whether a loan period can be renewed.

  5. Return

Please return the media at our service desk. When the library is closed, you can instead use the return box at the black locker box in the entrance hall of building A. We will return those items on the next opening day.

How do I order a book?

If there are no relevant items within the collection of HNU library, you can create an interlibrary loan order from within the library catalogue. Please log in with your user number (Bibliotheksnummer, on your Campus Card, starts with NU...) and your password (your birth date, ddmmyy). Go to the second tab in your result list ("interlibrary loan") and click the item you want to order. Click on availability and check if the item is available in the Bavarian Library Network. If so, you can click the link to open the ordering form. Check the form and send it by clicking the button at the bottom.

How can I order journal articles or book chapters?

First of all, you will need the exact location of the item. For journal articles, this means issue, year, article titel, author, start page and end page; for book chapters, this means bibliographic data on the book and start page and end page of the chapter.

In the library catalogue, search for the containing item (i. e. the journal or the book) and proceed in the same way as for ordering a book. Please note: You will need to fill in the aforementioned location information into the ordering form. Finish your order by clicking the button below. The item will be sent as a physical copy which can be fetched at the library service desk.

Item unavailable in the Bavarian Library Network?

If that is the case, there is a more general interlibrary below the Bavarian one called ILL request. Feel free to use it if the Bavarian Library Network does not contain the item you need, but please note: This will take longer.

How long does it take?

Books and article copies take between 1 and 2 weeks if they are sent from within Bavaria. It might take longer if the item you need was not available in Bavaria and had to be ordered from other parts of Germany.

Our tip: Please order early.

How long is my loan period?

Your loan period is determined by the library which owns the book. Therefore, you might experience

  • different loan periods for different items
  • a single loan period without any renewal options
  • usage restrictions, i. e. the item can only be used within the library.

We must adhere to those rules. When fetching your item, please read your receipt carefully.

How can I renew my loan periods?

You cannot renew the loan periods on your own. If you need a renewal, please eine contact us a few days ahead of the end of your loan period. The library team will then contact the owning library and will try to renew your loan period.

Please note: There are overdue fees, so please use the aforementioned way of loan period renewal.

How much does it cost?

  • Ordering books is free!
  • Article copies cost € 1.50 for up to 40 pages; € 6.00 for 41-60 pages; additional € 2.00 for every 20 pages above 60.
