Programming made easy: HNU boot camp for schoolgirls

20.06.2023, Press Release :

From 7 to 11 August 2023, participants in the AppInventors bootcamp at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) will learn to programme simple apps for smartphones and to steer Lego Mindstorms robots through a course. The offer is aimed at schoolgirls from the ninth grade upwards who want to dive into the world of programming together with other girls and develop their own applications. No previous knowledge is required; all that is needed is a smartphone with internet access.

The boot camp, which was developed exclusively for girls and is already taking place for the third time this year, focuses on learning with a high fun factor: In addition to the creative realisation of one's own app ideas or mastering a robotics course, the programme also includes break activities and exchanges with female students. The playful approach introduces the participants to programming in a relaxed atmosphere and awakens enthusiasm for IT and technology.

The boot camp is led by Prof. Dr. Erica Weilemann, who is a professor of practical computer science at HNU with a special focus on didactics. Professor Weilemann is supported by Alina Geßler (research assistant) and a team of female students.

The event is free of charge and includes a daily lunch. It will take place from 7 to 11 August 2023 from 9:30 to 14:00 each day at HNU. Interested parties can register by 20 July 2023. Further information and the registration form can be found at https://www.hnu.de/bootcamp-appinventors. For general questions about the event, please contact bootcamp-appinventors@hnu.de .
