From the specialist department of Kempten University of Applied Sciences with 105 students in 1994 to independence in 1998 to independent doctoral rights in 2023 and more than 4000 students today: HNU has developed into a permanent fixture in the regional innovation system. 32 Bachelor's and Master's degree courses, more than 100 partner universities worldwide and numerous collaborations and practical projects with regional and national companies underline its success.

30 anniversary events and campaigns
HNU kicked off the celebrations with a photo campaign based on a photo in the Neu-Ulmer Zeitung newspaper. In the archive photo from 1998, HNU founding dean Prof. Dr. Gerhard Hack, former Lord Mayor Dr. Beate Merk and Dieter Mutschler added the words "University City" to a Neu-Ulm town sign. Since then, the name "University City" has been the program: HNU has an impact on the city of Neu-Ulm and takes up impulses to work together on important tasks for the future. Almost three decades later, Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser and Katrin Albsteiger are now commemorating this milestone in the university's history with the new photo.
In her congratulations, Katrin Albsteiger emphasized the great importance of the HNU for the city and the region: "The HNU is a strong driver of innovation and Neu-Ulm would be unthinkable without it. It offers outstanding opportunities to train and promote smart and creative minds in an application-oriented way. I look forward to the coming years and would like to thank you for your commitment and excellent cooperation!"
