The university has responded to the needs of the students with additional rooms for both quiet work and project and group work. Especially for the pre-examination and examination period, students wanted more space for concentrated learning. In addition, an area should be established where students can relax and spend time between lectures.
"Literature shapes people - people shape literature," said Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann in her welcoming speech. "In our library, we have created a lot of space for dialogue and would like to deliberately invite that. Many thanks to our students, who have not shied away from dialogue and have expressed their need for more space."
Created for students were
- five train compartments for up to four people with shared monitor use
- four group study rooms (three rooms for up to eight people, one room for up to six people) with shared monitor use and booking option via the Moodle learning platform
- a lounge area with comfortable sofas and armchairs overlooking Wiley Park
Barbara Mäule-Müller is not only pleased with the expanded space, but also with the extended opening hours: "In addition to our staff-led service hours, we now offer generous opening hours in the morning, evening, and on Saturday." The library is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
With a total of 1,232 square meters of space, university members have access to 68,000 e-books, 62,000 print media, 10,500 electronic magazines and newspapers, 130 print journals and databases with statistical and legal information as well as company, industry and country information. Furthermore, technology can also be borrowed and exercise-promoting furniture such as steppers or a deskbike can be used in the library.
