"DARE TO SHINE!": Networking event gives women impetus for further development

26.04.2023, Press Release :

Under the motto "DARE TO SHINE!" a special networking event for women took place last Friday at Neu-Ulm University (HNU). More than 60 participants accepted the invitation as part of the BayernMentoring program and received suggestions for showing their strengths and talents, standing up for their goals, overcoming resistance and prejudices, and actively shaping their careers.

In her welcoming speech, HNU Women's Representative Prof. Dr. Claudia Kocian-Dirr underscored the long-standing success of BayernMentoring at the university and got the participants - former and current mentees and mentors as well as female academic staff and professors - in the mood for the event's motto. "At HNU, we encourage all of our students to reach their full potential and grow personally," the business information systems professor explained. "As a team of women's representatives, we are particularly concerned with getting women excited about science and technology. With our offer, we create a positive and motivating environment that encourages them to have new experiences, meet role models and grow beyond themselves."

Prof. Dr. Claudia Kocian-Dirr then handed over to Dr. Kathrin Färber, coach and career consultant from Ulm, who gave important impulses for professional (further) development and overcoming challenges in her keynote speech. Above all, she encouraged the participants to have more confidence in themselves and to consciously set goals. Using the example of the exceptional Brazilian soccer player Marta, the speaker explained this topic very clearly: "Dare to Shine" means for Marta, according to a quote from the athlete, above all "taking risks, believing in yourself and not being afraid of making mistakes. The response of the participants to the keynote was so positive that Dr. Kathrin Färber expanded on these and similar aspects with students and interested women in intensive individual and group discussions.

BayernMentoring: Women benefit from exchange with experienced mentor from the business world

In the form of several agile mini-workshops, the female mentors of the BayernMentoring program offered further input in the area of career development during the afternoon - including topics such as "Career change in IT", "Working abroad" and "Successful networking". Participants then recorded their professional profiles and networking data, as well as their wishes for the mentoring program, on a net board and a wish board.

"Over the past 16 years, BayernMentoring has allowed us to witness how many young women have shown their strength and talents and actively shaped their careers," said Magdalena Fremdling, Equal Opportunities Officer and organizer of the program. "Today's event made this particularly clear once again: many former mentees confirmed that their development was fostered precisely by the special dialogue and exchange with an experienced mentor from the business world."

The event was rounded off by a buffet and live music - the latter personally arranged by Prof. Dr. Claudia Kocian-Dirr with band, with the participation of mentor Birgit Schmid. The opportunity to exchange ideas and network was enjoyed for a long time. The participants were consistently enthusiastic in view of the diverse impulses for reflection: "Thank you very much for the magical energy", was the feedback, and: "Great input, motivates to reflect and actively work towards what you want yourself".
