HNU welcomes more than 500 new students for summer semester 2023

24.03.2023, Press Release :

Around 4,000 students are enrolled at Neu-Ulm University (HNU) for the summer semester 2023. Among them are more than 500 first-year students, who were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann, Vice President for Studies and Teaching, in the lecture hall of HNU. The master's programs Social Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development (M.A.) and Communication and Design for Sustainability (M.A.) are newly launched.

In particular, courses such as Physician Assistant, Game Production and Management, and Business Psychology are attracting high numbers of applications. In addition, two new master's degree programs have been launched, which follow on from existing bachelor's degree programs.

At the start of the semester, Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann, Vice President for Academic Affairs, welcomed the new students in the main lecture hall; the welcome was also broadcast to another lecture hall.

In her speech, she encouraged the new students to learn to ask the right questions. She also advised them to find out about interesting companies early on and to put out feelers for suitable internships.

Other HNU contact persons also introduced themselves on site. Christoph Giebeler, for example, explained his role as head of the Advice and Information Center for Parents, Personal and Social Affairs (BIZEPS), where he provides advice on personal challenges such as exam nerves, family care cases, studying with a child or financial problems.

For the first time, a "market of opportunities" organized by the HNU student council took place in the HNU foyer after the welcome. HNU's student initiatives were represented there with booths, for example the organization "Move", which is committed to sustainability & social issues, or the student consultancy ponte consult. Staff from HNU's Founders Space as well as the International Office and Student Health Management were also represented. Afterwards, the student representatives gave a guided tour of the university in groups.

New degree programs launched with a focus on sustainability

New for the summer semester 2023 are the two master's degree programs Social Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development (M.A.) and Communication and Design for Sustainability (M.A.), both of which focus - in different ways - on sustainability.

The Communication and Design for Sustainability M.A. program combines a highly contemporary mindset with critical theory and practical application. The program focuses on how to develop and communicate attractive sustainable lifestyles. Students should be able to design transformation and transition processes transparently and to plan and communicate them with the involvement of various stakeholders. To this end, specialized technical or conceptual methods are developed to solve strategic problems in order to transform social and economic conditions technically, socially and creatively.

In the Social Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development program, students learn how social entrepreneurship can be used to develop innovative solutions for greater holistic sustainability in corporate business models as well as in international development collaborations. They are thus prepared for entrepreneurial and responsible leadership positions in the field of sustainability management, innovation management and international management in companies, governmental and non-governmental organizations.
