"24 h for your region": Student project for more sustainability

08.03.2022, Press Release :

Creative ideas for more sustainability in the Ulm/Neu-Ulm and Biberach region sought: The cities of Ulm, Neu-Ulm and Biberach have joined forces with the four universities Ulm University, Ulm University of Technology, Biberach University of Applied Sciences and Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences to develop sustainable solutions to specific problems from the region as part of the StartupSÜD joint project. "24 h for your region" is the name of the event, which will be hosted by Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences on April 29 and 30, 2022.

Sustainability is a term that is currently being used almost inflationarily and has almost degenerated into a buzzword. Yet a rethink has long since taken place both in society and in the young economy. Today, economic profitability is no longer the only consideration for companies and young founders - social and ecological aspects are just as important.

The cities and municipalities in the Donau-Iller-Riß region also want to not only propagate sustainability, but actually enable a sustainable future for the region. In order to realize this, the cities of Ulm, Neu-Ulm and Biberach have joined forces with the four universities Ulm University, Ulm University of Technology, Biberach University of Applied Sciences and Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences to develop sustainable solutions for concrete problems from the region as part of the StartupSÜD joint project. "24 h for your region" is the name of the event, which will be hosted by Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences on Friday, April 29, and Saturday, April 30, 2022. The registration deadline is April 12, 2022.

Fair trade, designing green spaces or upcycling and circular economy?

In just 24 hours, original solutions to regional challenges are to be developed by the students of the collaborative universities with the help of new working methods such as design thinking and prototyping. Whether fair trade, green space design or upcycling and circular economy, there are no limits to the creative ideas on the motto "Sustainability in the Ulm/Neu-Ulm and Biberach region". In addition to the cities, the partners "Local Agenda Ulm 21" and "House of Sustainability" also provide the concrete tasks.

In order to increase the impact through different competences, the teams from the four universities are put together in an interdisciplinary way. They will also be accompanied by coaches from the StartupSÜD team and supported with specialist expertise from the universities. The goal is to continue to pursue the best ideas and projects after the "24 hours" through cooperation between the partners and student teams. All students at the universities are invited to participate, regardless of the stage of their studies or the subject they are taking.
