HNU student receives scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation

03.12.2021, Press Release :

Mara Serek is in her seventh semester of industrial engineering, a cooperative degree programme at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) and Ulm University of Applied Sciences (THU), and has received a highly endowed scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation. She was nominated by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens Bihr from THU.

The Studienstiftung promotes students whose talent and personality give rise to expectations of special achievements in the service of the community. This includes not only intellectual abilities, willingness to perform and motivation, but also social competence and social commitment.

Mara Serek feels very honoured about being nominated for a scholarship from the Studienstiftung: "I would like to thank Prof. Reisach from the bottom of my heart, who prepared me excellently for the selection process, Prof. Hüser, who in his function as Dean of Studies always gave me the feeling that I could successfully complete my studies, and Prof. Bihr, who saw my potential and ultimately nominated me for the Studienstiftung. I owe wonderful years in Neu-Ulm to HNU and THU and am immensely happy about the decision to study industrial engineering here."

Prof. Dr. Ulrike Reisach from HNU, former scholarship holder and member of the Studienstiftung's selection jury, is also very pleased about Mara Serek's sponsorship: "I am very pleased that an HNU student has been awarded this sponsorship. I was already struck by her drive and curiosity at the scholarship information day. Her CV and her social commitment are even more convincing."

Since 2015, Mara Serek (opens in a new window) (opens link to her LinkedIn profile) has been involved in various positions at the LEO Club Günzburg Schwaben, and since this year also at the Bavarian district level of the LEO Clubs as PR representative. In doing so, she "donates" her time to help fellow human beings in need. Since April 2021, she has also been working as a student ambassador at HNU for the industrial engineering degree programme, answering prospective students' questions about the degree programme and everyday study life.

The Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (opens in a new window) (German National Academic Foundation) is the oldest and largest organisation in the Federal Republic of Germany that supports gifted students. Supported by funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as well as other governmental and non-governmental sponsors, 13 organisations for the promotion of gifted students in Germany provide financial and non-material support for particularly talented and committed students and doctoral candidates. The Studienstiftung is the only organisation where the selection and promotion of scholarship holders is independent of political, ideological and religious guidelines.
