HNU's virtual negotiation training wins Community Award

14.12.2020, Press Release :

On 10 December 2020, the team of the InnoSÜD sub-project "Sales Lab" at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) received the Community Award of the NextReality.Contest. This was launched in 2017 with the aim of making outstanding work in the fields of virtual, augmented and mixed reality visible. The winners of the fourth nextReality.Contest were honoured in a festive awards show via live stream in Hamburg.

For the Community Award, internet users were able to vote for the favourite from the scene on the website of the nextReality.Contest. website for a month to vote for the favourite from the scene. From more than 80 submissions, the virtual negotiation training "Beat the Bot" finally prevailed in a neck-and-neck race against two other projects in the final round. The project team of the Competence Centre Growth and Sales Strategies at HNU is delighted about the award: "We are very happy that our virtual negotiation training has won a coveted prize for the second time this year," says Prof. Dr. Alexander Kracklauer. The Community Award is the second success for the virtual negotiation training of the team around Prof. Dr. Alexander Kracklauer, Barbara Dannenmann and Jan Fiedler, which had already been awarded the DIVR Science Award in August this year.

Virtual negotiation training with artificial intelligence

"Beat the Bot": This is the challenge faced by users of the virtual negotiation training developed by the team of the InnoSÜD sub-project "Sales Lab" at HNU together with the company partner TriCAT GmbH. At the virtual negotiating table, players have to do business with a bot that recognises what is said thanks to artificial intelligence and reacts accordingly. While going through the negotiation simulation, it is possible to test different styles and learn which negotiation style helps to be successful. The game could be used for training in sales management or business studies, for example, to combine theoretical knowledge with practical exercises.

"Our thanks also go to our supporters, without whom this further success would not have been possible," explains Barbara Dannenmann, who is responsible for the project as a research assistant. Over the next two and a half years, the approach, which combines virtual reality with artificial intelligence, will be further developed and expanded.
