BayZeN provides a platform for all interested university stakeholders in Bavaria for cooperation, exchange and the overall institutional implementation of sustainability, education for sustainable development (ESD) and climate protection at universities. It promotes scientific discourse on the major social challenges of sustainable development and offers a platform for the exchange of knowledge, methods and examples of good practice. The focus is on networking and involving university members from all disciplines, administrative units and student representatives as well as representatives from politics, business and society.
During a visit by BayZeN Managing Director Lara Lütke-Spatz and the President of Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences and spokesperson for the network, Prof. Dr Eric Veulliet, Prof. Dr Julia Kormann, HNU Vice President for Studies, Teaching and Sustainability, and Prof. Dr Judith Mayer spoke about the strategic potential and specific measures for cooperation in the university network and the role of universities in sustainable development. Prof. Dr Julia Kormann emphasised: "Sustainability is the challenge of the 21st century that we can only overcome together. On the one hand, BayZeN is a valuable place for us to exchange ideas, and on the other, it provides us with concrete support in realising our greenhouse gas balance, for example."
BayZeN was founded on 30 March 2023 as the successor to the Bavarian University and Sustainability Network (NHNB), in which HNU was involved from the outset. In March 2023, HNU President Prof. Dr Uta M. Feser, like the other presidents of the Bavarian universities of applied sciences, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in which HNU committed itself to the implementation of sustainability throughout the institution.
About the Bavarian University and Sustainability Network
The Bavarian University and Sustainability Network sees itself as an open network for the stronger anchoring of sustainability at universities in Bavaria. Based on a common understanding of sustainability, the participating universities join forces to strengthen sustainability across the entire institution in the fields of research, teaching, operations, governance, transfer and student initiatives.
