Focal points & services

We believe in Germany as a sustainable production location. Together with politicians and companies, we want to make the region sustainable and competitive. That is why we are researching and developing in three key areas: Smart Factory, Sustainable Supply Chain Networks and Project- and Change Management.

Smart Factory

The Smart Factory is the vision outlined by Industry 4.0 of an ultra-modern production site that is highly digitalised, automated and networked. The focus is on the three core topics: Smart Operations (lean management, operational excellence, digital factory planning), Smart Data (business analytics, business intelligence, artificial intelligence) and Smart Systems (intelligent, networked and autonomous systems in production and logistics).

Advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), automation, robotics and digital networking increase the efficiency and flexibility of production and logistics processes and ensure Germany's competitiveness as a production location.

Sustainable Supply Chain Networks

Value creation networks form the basis for the supply and consumption of people and companies. However, the current risky supply situation with goods and products as well as socio-political goals require a rethink and restructuring of value creation networks as well as the measurement of the degree of sustainability as a basis for the development and perpetuation of competitive advantages. Economic and ecological goals must be harmonised and grow as a symbiotic system.
The Sustainable Supply Chain Networks cluster covers the planning and management of supply chain and logistics processes. It focuses on supporting companies in the development, implementation and evaluation of supply chain strategies, sustainability, risk management, collaboration and SMART forecasting.

Project and Change Management

The change in strategy from a conventional factory to a smart factory or the implementation of a zero-emission strategy presents companies with major challenges. Projects of this kind require trained employees in project management. In addition, employees are increasingly at the centre of the change. Changes therefore require a rethink at all levels.

The TTZ develops solutions in the areas of project and change management. They help industrial companies in particular to successfully implement the planned transformation methodically and in terms of personnel. This results in lean and optimised models and tools with which the transformation can be implemented hands-on.
