GM-Lab (Healthcare Management Laboratory)

Introtext

In the GM-LAB, scientists research and teach on the topic of digitalisation of medicine and care. Novel mobile digital technology for medicine is designed, built and tested. Telemedical applications, medical devices and anatomical models become tangible for students.

The "Healthcare Management" laboratory is functionally divided into the areas of teaching and research:

Research: The research field "mHealth" provides equipment to design, build and test novel mobile digital technology for medicine. One example is the development of a mobile speech assistant based on the Arduino microcomputer.

Teaching: The laboratory contains equipment and course material to support the teaching (especially medicine) of the GM courses. Many anatomical models are available, but medical examinations can also be carried out (including vital data measurement and sonography).

The laboratory is currently used in topic-specific courses and research projects:

  • Course "Introduction to Medicine"
  • Course "Gerontology"
  • Lecture "Arduino programming"
  • "mhealth" research project

Specific laboratory equipment / facilities

  • Examination couches
  • Monitoring unit for vital parameters (SpO2, ECG, RR)
  • Sonography device
  • Blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes, reflex hammer
  • Anatomical models
  • Age Simulation Suit
  • Arduino starter kits
  • 2 PC workstations
  • 3D printer (planned)
  • Virtual reality environment
  • Soldering & electronics workstation (with FI TypeB all-current sensitive with emergency stop with rotary release)
