The International Office supports students in the final phase of their studies in a very limited number with graduation scholarships. The scholarship is funded by the STIBET I programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funds from the Federal Foreign Office.

The scholarship is aimed at international students in financial need in studying for a Bachelor or Master degree who are expected to successfully complete their studies this semester. This funding is only available once.

Please note: The graduation scholarship "STIBET" is not a full scholarship, but a grant towards living costs (see scholarship amount).

Application requirements

  • enrolment in a Bachelor- or Master programme at the HNU
  • actual presence at the HNU for study purposes, i.e. you don't write your thesis in a company
  • university entrance qualification obtained abroad
  • Final semester of studies (maximum of two semesters over the standard period of study), your successful completion of studies is expected within this semester. Funding is only possible once
  • ideally good academic performances
  • financial need

Application documents

Apply online via our Mobility-Online (opens in a new window) platform. In the online portal we ask you to enter various information (in English or German):

  • personal details,
  • curriculum vitae,
  • letter of motivation.

You have to upload the following documents:

  • current certificate of enrolment
  • current grades cerificates (transcript of records ot the HNU)
  • evidence of nationality (e.g. passport copy)
  • proof of registration for thesis (if applicable)
  • marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • children's birth certificate (if applicable)
  • further evidence (if applicable, e.g. social commitment, prices won etc.)

How to define 'financial need'?

The scholarship is intended to enable students who are in need through no fault of their own to enable them to complete their studies by providing financial support. You do not fulfil the requirements of § 8 BAFöG (opens in a new window)  requirements and have less than € 930 per month at their disposal.

Grant amount and funding period

  • The amount of yourscholarship is at least € 250 per month and is awarded for 2 to 6 months. The scholarship is transferred once as a sum.
  • Your scholarship is determined according to your qualifications and financial situation and depends on the funds available as well as the number of applicants. Therefore, the scholarship amount may vary from semester to semester.
  • Please note that there is no legal entitlement to a scholarship.
  • The funding period is up to a maximum of 6 months.

Ap­plic­a­tion steps

  1. On­line-re­gis­tra­tion

    Please register at Mobility-Online (opens in a new window) (opens in a new window) with your personal data and some information on your studies at HNU. Please choose the exchange programme 'Hochschule International für internationale Vollstudierende'. You can choose your preferred language of communication (either English or German).

  2. First ap­plic­a­tion step

    Complete your personal and financial data, upload your current certificate of enrolment and confirm the accuracy of your details.

  3. Fur­ther ap­plic­a­tion doc­u­ments

    After you receive an email about the validity of your application, you can complete your application: Fill in your CV details and describe your motivation for the scholarship.  You will be asked to submit further application documents (including your current HNU transcript of records, copy of your passport).

  4. No­ti­fic­a­tion of schol­ar­ship

    Three weeks after the application deadline, you will receive an e-mail with your acceptance if your application is successful. You can now download your notification of award from Mobility-Online. You will also be asked to provide your bank details for the scholarship payment.
