What was your main motivation to go abroad?

Since the beginning of my studies, I have always wanted to do a semester abroad. The idea of living in a foreign country, immersing myself in the culture, and getting to know new people has always fascinated me, and I absolutely wanted to experience it myself.

I can definitely recommend a study abroad experience to everyone, and I would like to encourage those who may have reservations to take the plunge as well.

What were your biggest concerns?

At the beginning, I definitely had concerns because I am a very homebound person and had never been separated from my family and friends for such a long time. As the study abroad semester approached, I became more nervous, but my excitement grew as well. Even once I arrived in the foreign country, it took me some time to adjust and settle in, but once I got past that point, I could simply enjoy the time without worries.

Would you recommend a stay abroad? Why?

I can definitely recommend a study abroad experience to everyone, and I would like to encourage those who may have reservations to take the plunge as well. Of course, at the beginning, everything may feel overwhelming as you navigate a completely new environment with new people. However, from my own experience, I can say that you can quickly adapt to new situations, and if you embrace the adventure, you will undoubtedly gain many experiences that you will fondly remember for years to come.

What did you learn from your stay abroad?

From my time abroad, I have forged many new friendships. It is much easier to meet new people than one might think, and even though you've known them for only a few months, very close bonds can form. Additionally, I was able to improve my language skills and gained a profound insight into Spanish culture as a whole.

Fun Fact

Spanish people generally walk very slowly. If, like me, you often leave for university late, you have to practice dodging, as otherwise, you definitely won't arrive on time. However, the professors usually arrive 15 minutes late, which can sometimes save the students. 😊

Were your expectations met?

My expectations were definitely met. Through contacts with people who had already experienced a semester abroad, I flew to Spain with a positive feeling. Of course, saying goodbye was difficult, but I could still look forward to the upcoming time as I had only heard positive things until then. The people I met significantly shaped and made the experience special for me. Thanks to the Erasmus activities, it was effortless to connect with others as most people are very open. One must always remember that everyone is in the same situation and eager to meet new people. The good transportation connections in Zaragoza allowed me to travel around Spain, which I also enjoyed very much. I am very satisfied with my study abroad semester.

Is there anything you would like to highlight about your experience abroad?

The important message I have tried to convey in my previous responses is that it is worth stepping out of your comfort zone and experiencing something like this. I believe this message is so important to me because, initially, I also struggled to leave my loved ones back home and do my own thing in a foreign country. However, not once did I regret making that decision, and that's why I want to encourage others to take the leap as well. It's truly an incredibly cool experience; you won't regret it!
