What was your main motivation to go abroad?
I always wanted to live abroad, and I felt like it would be the best opportunity to do it during my bachelor. My main goal was to improve my language skills and challenge myself.
It was one of the best times in my life.
What were your biggest concerns?
Not finding any friends and be by myself. And that the lectures are too hard or that my English skills are too weak.
Would you recommend a stay abroad? Why?
I would absolutely recommend doing a semester abroad. I would say it was one of the best times in my life. It’s such a different experience and you really grow. Not just academically but personal. You meet so many new people with different knowledge and mindset that you already know. I learned a lot about myself and about other people during the semester.
Fun Fact
Everyone in Canada has a favorite sports club in any kind of sports. I’m not the biggest sport fan but in there it’s different. No matter if its Baseball, Basketball, Hockey. It’s definitely worth it to watch a game! I loved all the sports games I have been to!
What did you learn from your stay abroad?
I’ve lived together with four other Canadian students. Our bond got really strong during the term and I felt like a real Canadian student. My friends and roommates told me a lot about Canadian culture and history. An interesting thing about my courses was that I got a lot of insights about the Canadian crime situation as well as about Canadian healthcare issues. That was really interesting to hear about similar or even different situations than in Germany!

Were your expectations met?
Absolutely! It was even better than my expectations, but to be honest my expectations hadn’t been that high since it was still during Covid-19 and some restrictions had been lifted, some had remained.
