What was your main motivation to go abroad?

To get the new experience of living in a foreign country and getting out of my comfort zone. To get to know another culture, meet new people, improve my language skills and make international friends from all over the world. To take the chance to receive Erasmus+ funding and have an unforgettable forever lifetime memory.

If you have the chance to do a semester abroad, you should definitely take it - because what you learn there, no one can take ever away from you.

What were your biggest concerns?

My biggest worry was that I would feel lonely or strange or that I wouldn't be able to find my way around in the new city.

Would you recommend a stay abroad? Why?

Definitely, YES! It is a unique, unforgettable and memorable time that I will not forget. In addition to personal development, a semester abroad also proves to be valuable in your CV. I couldn't imagine in advance what it would mean to spend a semester abroad and what opportunities it would open up. If you have the chance to do a semester abroad, you should definitely take it - because what you learn there, no one can take ever away from you.

Fun Fact

Compared to Germany, the Portuguese are slower and not quite as punctual. There are only two extremes among drivers: either very slow or very fast.

What did you learn from your stay abroad?

I was able to gain insights into the Portuguese educational system and the teaching methods at the university. In addition,  I had the opportunity to meet many new people from all over the world and make friends - from the Netherlands to France, Italy and Mexico.

The Ponte 25 de Abril looks very similar to the Golden Gate Bridge, as it was designed by the same architect.

Were your expectations met?

My expectations were far exceeded and I am very grateful for that.

Is there anything you would like to highlight about your experience abroad?

In addition to the professional development, my personal development is also important. I especially look back on the trips I made from Lisbon, as the airport in Lisbon is very well connected and the flights were very cheap. But of course I also really liked the city itself, the distinct nightlife, the culinary diversity and the people themselves.
