What was your main motivation to go abroad?
I wanted to take the chance to live for a few months in another country and especially in a big city like Lisbon, to get to know the culture and to study in an international environment.
I have learned that it is worth jumping over one's shadow and daring things like a stay abroad.
What were your biggest concerns?
One of my biggest concerns was whether I would manage to live 5 months apart from my partner and family. I was also worried whether I would be lonely there. Fortunately, with the support of friends and family, I was able to overcome my concerns and gain very valuable experience.
Would you recommend a stay abroad? Why?
I would definitely recommend a study period abroad, especially in Lisbon. You learn to reinvent yourself during this time and get out of your comfort zone. The city immediately enchants you with its great old town, the cuisine, the charm and the location on the Atlantic Ocean.
What did you learn from your stay abroad?
I have learned that it is worth jumping over one's shadow and daring to do things like a stay abroad. You take away so many great experiences and you can overcome the worries that made you doubt before.
Fun Fact
Public transport in Lisbon never runs at the specified times. After a certain time, you adapt and just wait for the next bus without paying attention to the timetable.
Were your expectations met?
My expectations were definitely met. Not only did I get to know Portuguese university life, but I was able to travel around a lot of Portugal and enjoy life in the big city of Lisbon.
Is there anything you would like to highlight about your experience abroad?
Time is very eventful, especially in the first weeks and months of the stay, and it flies by. It was therefore all the more important for me to see not only Lisbon, but also other places in Portugal. Early planning gave me and my friends unforgettable trips before the time was over.
