Ten years of Information Mangement Automotive: anniversary celebration and innovations

21.07.2022, Study :

The "Mobility Afternoon" recently celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Information Management Automotive (IMA) program at Neu-Ulm University (HNU). Interested parties were able to experience informative keynote speeches, visit the IMA lab on the HNU campus and drive E-GoKarts through a course. In addition, program director Prof. Dr. Vogt gave an overview of the new features of the program.

For the IMA program, 2022 is a special year for two reasons: First, the program, in which students are already helping to shape the mobility of the future, is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Course director Prof. Dr. Joerg-Oliver Vogt and his team organized a "Mobility Afternoon" to mark the anniversary and new developments, starting at 4 p.m. on the HNU campus. On the other hand, IMA was modernized at important points and adapted to current requirements.

IMA in a new guise: modernization of the study program

"IMA has always been a very practical degree program in applied business informatics with very good career prospects," explains Prof. Dr. Vogt. "To ensure that graduates continue to find the right jobs in the mobility industry, we have adapted the degree program to the requirements of the mobility of the future. Mobility will become much smarter and more connected, and we will combine a wide variety of transportation modes, be they private, shared, public, electric or autonomous. Our students will acquire all the skills needed to make this possible with the help of IT."

Starting next winter semester, students will benefit from the new content in their first semester. For Tom Schallenmüller, IMA student in the 5th semester, it is clear that "above all, the high degree of practical orientation including project work in my course of study is great - it has brought us fellow students together. In addition, you already get a broad overview during your studies, e.g. in software engineering or project management. For student Eva Schaupp, also in her 5th semester, IMA is a course of study "that looks beyond the horizon with its content. The insights into the different areas during my studies helped me to choose a suitable internship for my upcoming practical semester."

Exciting insights into the mobility of tomorrow

The developments of the study program were also a focus of the "Mobility Afternoons". The program included several keynote presentations: What constitutes the mobility of the future? How has IMA developed and which new contents will be needed in our society in the future and therefore offered in the study program? Insights into the diverse student projects that are realized in the IMA laboratory were provided by the subsequent laboratory presentation. Among other things, those interested were allowed to try out the virtual reality flight simulator and virtually fly around freely. Afterwards, the participants had the opportunity to inspect the IMA Lab's E-GoKarts and to drive a lap around the HNU parking lot themselves. Away from the individual program points, there was the opportunity for numerous conversations and discussions among the guests, faculty, students and alumni. The event was concluded with a festive barbecue.
