The journal issue on the topic of "Physician Assistant" has been published by the Institute for Networked Health.

In the fifteenth issue, the focus was placed on the topic of "Physician Assistants". Physician assistants are highly qualified employees in health care facilities who work closely with doctors. Since they can take over delegated activities from doctors, they can relieve doctors and thus make a decisive contribution to high-quality patient care. The activities include, for example, the preparation of diagnosis and therapy plan, the performance of medical-technical activities and the participation in surgical interventions and emergency treatments.

The authors of the edition include Prof. Dr. Thomas Lichtinger, Prof. Dr. Silvia Straub, Prof. Dr. Judith Mantz, Rosa Maria Erlenberg, Prof. Dr. Hans-J. Günther, Prof. Dr. Hans P. Heistermann, Prof. Dr. Stefan M. Sesselmann, Prof. Dr. Kirsten Bodusch-Bechstein, Prof. Dr. Claudia Heilmann, Prof. Dr. Dietlind Tittelbach-Helmrich, Tanja Marschall, Dr. Ekkehard Scheffler and Prof. Roger Jaeckel.

The individual contributions deal with the following topics: the use of physician assistants in the outpatient and inpatient sector, the possibilities and limits of their use, the delegation of medical activities and the quality of treatment when using physician assistants. The contributions contain summaries and give a good overview of the current state of research.
