2 Plus 3 : 2 days online plus study - 3 days IT practice

With its 2 Plus 3 study format, the primary qualifying part-time Health Informatics degree programme with integrated practice is an opportunity for hospitals and healthcare facilities to introduce students closely to the professional requirements of IT practice from the start of their studies and to combine theory and practice in a meaningful way.

Study format 2 Plus 3

The 2 Plus 3 study format combines two online study days and three practical days per week. In addition, there are two compact, plannable attendance blocks per semester on the perfectly equipped campus of Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences. Students spend 63 study days at HNU over the total duration of the programme of ten semesters.

Applying knowledge from the degree programme directly

From the start of their studies, students regularly spend three days a week working in their IT department and can directly apply the knowledge they have acquired during their studies. The online study days and the two attendance blocks at the HNU are known in advance and can therefore be planned for you as a company. During the lecture-free period, the practical days can be freely agreed with the student, taking into account holiday entitlements.

Contents of the programme

Students on the degree programme are trained for an application-related professional activity in the healthcare sector, particularly in hospitals. Graduates will have a basic understanding of the principles of health care.

With this innovative study format, you can retain talented people in the region at an early stage and give them exciting insights into practical work.

How is the degree programme organised?

2 Plus 3 : 2 days online plus study - 3 days IT practice

Students spend three days a week working in your company's IT department from the start of the programme. The two online study days will be announced by HNU in good time before the start of the semester. Students have a five-day attendance block at the start of the semester and a two-day attendance block at HNU at the end of the semester. You will receive these dates well in advance so that you can plan your student's practical periods well in advance. The standard holiday must be planned during the lecture-free period.

Planning the lecture periods

As a rule, students' lecture periods must be scheduled. The periods can be found in the following document "Lecture periods for the degree programme".

This lecture framework applies to the first to fourth and sixth to ninth semesters. The practical semester takes place in the fifth semester, i.e. the students are fully employed by you. The Bachelor's semester takes place in the tenth semester, i.e. the students spend two study days at your company writing their Bachelor's thesis.

How can I take part in the programme?

  1. You conclude the cooperation agreement for practice companies with the HNU and register the number of your practice places for the 2 Plus 3 programme before the student application period. The HNU lists your company as a practice partner on the homepage for the part-time Bachelor's degree programme in Health Informatics.

  2. Your company advertises the practical placement on the degree programme via its own job advertisements and social media channels.

  3. The application period for the degree programme runs from May to mid-July each year (see attachment to the practical placement contract).

  4. The degree programme is generally admission-free. The general admission requirements for school leavers are

    • At least an advanced technical college entrance qualification (valid in Bavaria)

    • For international applicants: German C1

  5. Applicants without a university of applied sciences degree can take the vocational qualification route. The following requirements apply here:

    • Secondary school leaving certificate plus vocational training and 3 years of professional experience

    • Successful completion of the university entrance examination at the end of January

    • If you have completed a recognised further specialist training course after your vocational training, the university entrance examination is not required and only a counselling interview with the programme director is necessary.
