Bio

Dr. Felix Holl, MPH, M.Sc., FAMIA is the Deputy Head of the DigiHealth Institute at the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences since 2024, leading the research and implementation of digital innovations in healthcare. He joined the DigiHealth Institute in 2018, first as a research associate and since 2023 as a postdoctoral fellow. Dr. Holl received his Ph.D. (Dr. rer. biol. hum.) in Medical Informatics from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 2023 and completed postgraduate training in Public Health at UMIT in Austria.

Prior to joining HNU, Dr. Holl spent two years at the Institute for Global Health Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) as a Global Health Informatics Specialist and previously received an M.Sc. in Global Health Sciences from UCSF as a Fulbright Scholar.

His research focuses on the evaluation of health informatics projects and the use of informatics in global health and international disasters. Dr. Holl chairs the Global Health Informatics Working Group of the American Medical Informatics Association. He serves on the editorial boards of BMC Digital Health, PLOS Digital Health, and Digital Health (Sage).

Dr. Holl has many years of experience in prehospital emergency medicine. He is a part-time health information systems consultant for the German Red Cross and an international disaster response delegate for German Red Cross, IFRC and WHO.

Current Projects

mHealth eval

The goal of this project is to provide a critical overview of evaluation methods for mHealth applications and make recommendations for further developments. 

hilltop

The Hilltop project brings together interdisciplinary experts from Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa, and Germany to explore how Health Technology Assessments (HTAs) can best be applied in digital public health interventions. By identifying gaps, developing guidelines, and comparing findings with global standards, the project aims to create a solid foundation for responsible and evidence-based use of digital health technologies.
