Mario A. Pfannstiel's research activities are characterized by a close interrelationship between research and teaching. He strives for a tight connection between his research projects and course content to provide students with practical and up-to-date training. The foundational and application-oriented research offers students the opportunity to benefit from current insights and research findings. Involving students in research projects allows them to gain valuable experience and further develop their skills. Through this holistic approach, it contributes to strengthening the research culture and the education of future professionals and leaders.
In his research work, the focus is on the healthcare sector, with a particular emphasis on four significant research areas: Design, Innovation, Service, and Technology (see figure). These areas are closely interconnected, forming a solid foundation for groundbreaking developments in healthcare. Additionally, these areas are closely intertwined with other forward-looking topics such as digitization, artificial intelligence, mobile health, telemedicine, virtual reality, robotics, and medical products. The close connection and engagement between these areas enable innovative solutions and improved patient care in the healthcare industry.
