Within three weeks it was converted: the worldwide unique intensive care bus of the DRK Rettungsdienst Heidenheim - Ulm gGmbH, sponsored by EvoBus GmbH. The aim was to transport corona patients to another hospital.

The simulations at the beginning of the Corona pandemic showed a need for intensive care beds in the Alb-Donau district and the city of Ulm that could not be covered regionally. It was foreseeable that many patients:inside would have to be transported to other regions. The management of the German Red Cross Rescue Service Heidenheim - Ulm gGmbH picked up the phone in March 2020 and contacted EvoBus GmbH with the idea of converting a coach. The idea was to create capacity for transporting as many intensive care patients as possible. EvoBus immediately provided a bus, which was converted in close cooperation between EvoBus and the rescue service Heidenheim - Ulm as a worldwide unique intensive care transport bus within three weeks. The current coordinator for the intensive care bus, Tim Polak, drew up the requirements profile for equipping and equipping the bus, in which four intensive care patients can be cared for simultaneously and transported several hundred kilometers.

Tim Polak and his colleague Max Hentschel enabled young people to visit the bus directly at HNU. Students from the Management major, from outpatient facilities from the Business Administration in Health Care program and students from the Emergency Medicine and Diagnostic Measures majors from the Physician Assistant program were on site. In addition, Tim Polak enriched the above-mentioned lectures by Christoph Stachel, Judith Mantz and Mona Spiegel with an exciting and practical lecture on the organization of emergency medical services and the history of the development of the intensive care bus. Last but not least, the students of the Physician Assistant course were given the opportunity to test the inventory of the intensive care bus from a medical point of view.
