The Physician Assistant (B.Sc.) course of studies started in the summer semester 2020 at the University of Applied Sciences Neu-Ulm (HNU). The students complete up to 20 practice weeks per year with cooperation partners of the university. HNU has now been able to win the ninth clinic partner for the close cooperation. Cooperation contracts now exist with the practice partners Alb Fils Kliniken, Therapiezentrum Burgau, Kreiskliniken Dillingen/Wertingen, Kreiskliniken Günzburg-Krumbach, Fachklinik Ichenhausen, Klinikum Memmingen, Rems-Murr-Kliniken, RKU - Universitäts- und Rehabilitationskliniken Ulm and the Universitätsklinikum Ulm. The cooperation was contractually agreed between the management of the clinical facilities and Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser, President of HNU.
The cooperations secure the basis for the practice contracts between the facilities and students. According to a logbook of the Medical Association, students have the opportunity to actively participate in the emergency room, in the operating room and on the ward, in general medicine or in functional diagnostics and to gain practical experience. The HNU's practice representative, Prof. Dr. Walter Mihatsch, supervises the cooperation facilities and the students in their practical work.
The Bachelor's program at HNU is state-approved, accredited and free of charge. The prerequisite is a completed professional training of at least two years in a recognized health profession. With at least three years of professional experience after completion of the training, it is also possible to study without the Abitur. According to the online portal "gehalt.de", the Physician Assistant is one of the ten most important trend occupations in 2019.
Graduates will enter the profession wherever patients are treated. They perform tasks delegated by doctors and ensure continuity of treatment. Physician assistants (also medical assistants or physician assistants) are trained as "all-rounders". They work at the interface between medicine and health management. As the "right hand", they not only relieve the physicians of organizational issues, but also assist with complex examinations and diagnoses as well as with the preparation of the treatment plan. They assist during operations and sometimes carry out minor procedures independently.
An online information evening on the Physician Assistant will take place on November 10, 2020. From 17 to 18:30, prospective students will receive information on the course of study and application.
