HNU researchers present at international conference in Morocco

03.06.2024, Research :

Several members of the Competence Center for Growth and Distribution Strategies at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) presented two papers at the 9th International Conference on Digital Economy (ICDEc) in Rabat, Morocco, from 9 to 11 May 2024. With their research findings, the HNU scientists contributed important insights into the digital transformation in the retail landscape.

ICDEc connects researchers from computer science, business informatics or information systems with business areas such as marketing, finance, human resources or management and thus offers an interdisciplinary platform for researching ideas, exchanging thoughts and initiating overarching research projects. The focus is on application contexts such as e-commerce, e-business, e-health and e-learning. In addition, the conference is characterized by its social aspirations - among other things, it enables young scientists from countries of the global South to participate in the conference.

HNU Professor Dr. Alexander Kracklauer is a member of the ICDEc Country Committee and Country Chair for Germany. This year's ICDEc took place at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Mohammed V in Rabat under the theme “Emerging Technologies and Business Innovation”. Researchers from various disciplines and 21 countries came together to exchange new perspectives and innovative ideas.

Maike Netscher and Stephanie Jordan, research assistants and doctoral students at HNU, presented two papers at the ICDEc, which were written in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Alexander Kracklauer, among others. The latter chaired a session on “Mobile Banking and Digital Assets”.

The presentations in detail

  • Stephanie Jordan, Alexander H. Kracklauer and Claas Christian Germelmann: “Advancements and Challenges in AI Applications for B2C Retail Promotions: Unveiling a Socio-Technical Framework for Computer Vision Technologies and Generative Adversarial Networks”

The paper is dedicated to the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) - in particular Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Computer Vision (CV) - on B2C retail promotions. Despite their potential, these technologies are still only used to a limited extent in the retail sector. Using systematic literature review and qualitative content analysis within the socio-technical systems (STS) model, the researchers demonstrate the need for a holistic understanding of the social and technical implications. The paper concludes with a comprehensive framework that integrates STS and the consumer journey and paves the way for competitive retail strategies.

  • Maike Netscher, Stephanie Jordan and Alexander H. Kracklauer: “Exploring Customer Acceptance of Smart Stores: An Advanced Model Approach”.

The model developed in this paper makes it possible to predict the acceptance of smart stores in Germany. According to the researchers, the consideration of specific customer expectations of the store, the enjoyment of shopping, the evaluation of the social environment and low-threshold technology solutions are particularly decisive for customer acceptance.
