Every year, the traditional Christmas Lecture of the Faculty of Health Management at HNU addresses a current topic from the healthcare sector and is aimed at students, alumni, employees from teaching and administration as well as interested practice partners. At this year's event on 12 December 2023, HNU honorary professor Roger Jaeckel dedicated his lecture "Hospital reform 2024: Where is the journey going?" to a major healthcare policy project: the hospital reform.
The topic has taken on an increasingly important role in the public debate in recent months - not least because it affects everyone and hospital insolvencies are being recorded in many regions of Germany. Roger Jaeckel first explained the history of the proposed reform as well as the reform objectives formulated in the coalition agreement of the coalition government. The presentation also focused on the federal and state key issues paper and the central contents of this paper, such as the adjustment of remuneration for hospitals.
The preliminary conclusion was - at least in part - sobering: there is no blueprint for the reform project to date. In connection with the hospital reform, a longer-term and difficult to plan structural change is to be expected, which will have a considerable impact on inpatient care.
The event concluded with a joint restaurant visit.
The Faculty of Healthcare Management's Christmas Lecture was organised by Prof. Dr Sylvia Schafmeister, Dean of the Faculty of Healthcare Management and Prof. Dr Patrick Da-Cruz, Practice Officer and Head of the MBA Leadership and Management in Healthcare programme.
