24.10.2022, Postgraduate :

Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Sylvia Schafmeister, head of the study programme and vice-president of continuing education and interdisciplinary healthcare at HNU and Paul Kubben, MBA graduate and lecturer, the International Study Week took place as an excursion from 03.-06.10.2022 with the topic "The Dutch Healthcare - what makes the dutch different, what do the dutch different" in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

On 03 October 2022, Jeroen Oversier, Director of the Institute of Health Care welcomed the 22 excursion participants at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.

During the International Study Week, 19 speakers gave deep insights with high practical relevance into the Dutch healthcare system.

On the first day, the following topics were introduced: the Dutch health care system, lean management with Six Sigma and complex organisations, optimising process flows in hospitals through intelligent data analysis and the job of a physician assistant.

The Ministry of Public Health, Welfare and Sport in The Hague was visited by the excursion group on the second day, with the aim of gaining knowledge about Dutch health policy. In addition, the participants were able to learn about the differences in the Dutch emergency service system compared to Germany.

The third day started with a presentation on the organisation of emergency medical care structures. This was followed by presentations on the Dutch cancer screening programme and the topic of neighbourhood management, which leads to good networking of the hospital with regional organisations and to a resulting high level of efficiency. This was followed by a report on the experience of setting up a GP practice in the poorest neighbourhoods of the Netherlands, with a real insight into everyday practice in a multicultural environment.

The International Study Week was concluded with a visit to the top clinic Maasstad Hospital and a local Zorghotel, including a presentation on the organisation of Dutch care structures and short-term care and rehabilitation.

In addition, an exciting social programme was offered in the evenings: the participants enjoyed the sunset over Rotterdam on the Euromasten at a height of 185 metres or explored the culinary delights of Rotterdam's world-famous market hall, the view of the Erasmus Bridge and the Rotterdam skyline were also not missed.
