HNU and Techniker Krankenkasse further expand student health management

17.12.2024, University News:

Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) has successfully completed the development of its Student Health Management (SGM) together with Techniker Krankenkasse (TK). The collaboration has resulted in formats and ideas that are now to be implemented as pilot projects or expanded further. HNU is therefore extending the cooperation with TK, which has been in place since 2021, until August 2026. The plan is, for example, to increase student health through improved health surveys and to further expand the network of contact persons for psychosocial health.

HNU has been certified as a “family-friendly university” by the Hertie Foundation since 2008 and has established a company health management system for administrative staff as part of this process. In 2021, cooperation with TK began in order to establish health management for students as well. All of the goals originally set for the establishment of the SGM, such as setting up a steering committee, conducting health surveys with the derivation of measures and organizing health campaigns, were achieved. In the second project phase from 2023 to 2024, the focus was on dovetailing with teaching and consolidating structures, in particular the health surveys and evaluation with the help of the Corporate Health Award.

Goals of further collaboration

Further goals have been defined for the upcoming project phase until August 2026: The health surveys are to be relaunched in order to gain further insights for deriving measures to promote student health. The HNU internal network for mental health is also to be sustainably anchored through the ongoing training of new contact persons. Furthermore, ideas and measures to maintain the participation of all stakeholders are to be implemented. In addition, a monastery stay is planned for students and managers for the pilot project “Taking the lead - mindfully shaping change”. All steps are determined by the SGM Steering Committee, which has been in place since December 2020.

HNU Vice President on the extension of the cooperation

Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann, Vice President for Studies, Teaching and Sustainability, is looking forward to the upcoming projects: “Together with Techniker Krankenkasse, we have built up a solid and data-based student health management system that will enable us to continue to promote health promotion on campus in a targeted manner in the future. It is particularly important to me to equip our students with skills that enable them to maintain their mental and physical performance during their studies and far beyond.”
