Festive speeches, food trucks and a fire show: HNU celebrates 30 years of university history

27.09.2024, Press Release :

“30Y HNU - HNU connects” - with over 350 guests, Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) brought its anniversary motto to life at the big celebration on September 26. HNU celebrated its 30th anniversary with staff and students, partners from the regional university landscape and business, as well as guests from the world of politics. Markus Blume, Bavarian State Minister for Science and the Arts, Katrin Albsteiger, Mayor of Neu-Ulm, and Eva Treu, District Administrator of Neu-Ulm, were among the guests. In addition to festive speeches and a video message from Dr. Florian Herrmann, Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery and Minister of State for Federal Affairs and Media, the program also included short interviews with HNU stakeholders. With delicacies from food trucks, anniversary cocktails, music and a fire show, three decades of innovative spirit and implementation strength were celebrated in a relaxed atmosphere.

In festive attire and wearing blue HNU anniversary T-shirts, the guests gathered in the early evening in HNU's black building, where, in addition to numerous video greetings from HNU members, partners and friends, HNU's milestones were projected onto a screen.

Review and outlook by the President

HNU President Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser welcomed the festive community and in her welcoming speech not only looked back on the many milestones and successes in the history of HNU, but also took a look into the future. “Our anniversary not only reminds us of where we have come from, it also shows us where we want to go. Our journey has taken us from a department at Kempten University of Applied Sciences with 105 students in 1994 to a record number of 4,300 students in the coming winter semester. We are now an indispensable part of the science, business and innovation system in the region and beyond - in short: a smart partner for regional impact. We would like to further expand this role in the next chapter of HNU. Securing and developing skilled workers, the use of artificial intelligence and the design of reliable and affordable healthcare are just some of the topics that concern us.”

Greetings from the Mayor of Neu-Ulm

Neu-Ulm's Lord Mayor Katrin Albsteiger also referred to the HNU as an important driving force in the region in her words of welcome. “HNU has firmly established itself in the region and built up a wonderful network. It always has its finger on the pulse of the times and has not lost its dynamism from the early days. Thank you for the good cooperation and the bright minds that enrich our region. Breaking new ground, recognizing shared potential, remaining agile and always on the move - that is HNU's DNA.”

Ceremonial speech by the Bavarian Minister of Science

Markus Blume emphasized: “Happy birthday to 30 years of Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences! Our ultimate university outpost in the southwest of Bavaria is experienced, wonderfully aged and mature, but young enough to make big plans. Big ambitions - that has been the hallmark of HNU since 1994. It is business-oriented, has a focus on start-ups and impresses with its research strength. This combination - coupled with its special Swabian charm - makes HNU one of our finest universities. It is a talent factory in the region for the region, and at the same time it has an excellent international position. And: it knows how to celebrate properly - 30 years with 30 parties. To make a long story short: HNU stands for 'hard at the limit', 'curious', 'unbeatable'. With this in mind: Ad multos annos!”

Video message from the Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery and Minister of State for Federal Affairs and the Media

Florian Herrmann, Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery and Minister of State for Federal Affairs and Media, sent his congratulations via video message. He congratulated HNU on three decades of innovation, successful teaching, research transfer and cross-border networking.
