Digitalization in emergency medicine: Managing Director of ADAC Telenotarzt gGmbH lectures at HNU

12.06.2024, Study :

Insights into the work of rescue services, tele-emergency doctors and air rescue: Students from the Faculty of Health Management at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) got to know ADAC Telenotarzt gGmbH and visited the ADAC air rescue station as part of the Outpatient Digital Management lecture by Prof. Dr. Manja Rausendorf-Marzina and Christoph Stachel.

Andreas Estermeier, Managing Director of ADAC Telenotarzt gGmbH, offered the students of the HNU Digital Medical and Nursing Management (B.Sc.) and Physician Assistant (B.Sc.) degree programs insights into the rescue service and air rescue and presented the concept and technical requirements for the deployment of the tele-emergency doctor. He also presented initial deployment figures for the ADAC tele-emergency doctor location in Gelnhausen from 2023 and discussed initial developments with the students.

A tele-emergency doctor communicates with non-medical rescue personnel in real time and from any location during an operation and is integrated into the ongoing care process thanks to technical means of audiovisual communication. Data such as ECG or blood pressure are also transmitted to the workstation of the tele-emergency doctor.

The students were particularly impressed by the spatial flexibility of the emergency doctor and the wide range of possible applications in both primary and secondary operations or in supervision. The information on the technical requirements for the deployment of the tele-emergency doctor and the qualifications of the professional groups involved also met with great interest. Against the backdrop of the shortage of skilled workers, this visit once again demonstrated to the students the great importance and potential of digitalization.

At the end of the event, interested students were able to visit the ADAC air rescue station on the upper Eselsberg in Ulm. Andreas Estermeier and the ADAC Luftrettung team also took plenty of time to answer the students' questions. The excursion ended with a shared pizza dinner, which was brought to an abrupt end by a final mission for the crew.
