HNU professor receives silver medal of the German Photo Book Award

30.11.2023, University News :

Danny Franzreb, professor at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU), has been awarded the silver medal of the German Photo Book Award 23/24 for his photo book "Proof of Work". The book is dedicated to the topic of cryptocurrency and condenses its abstract connections in the form of atmospheric photographs.

The German Photo Book Award honors the best photo books in the German-speaking world. This year, the award was presented as the highlight of the International Festival of Photographic Images on November 25 in Regensburg. Franzreb received the silver medal in the "Documentary Photography" category.

As a professor of design and photographer, Danny Franzreb's photographic projects explore the transformative effects of modern society, capturing stories of people and places undergoing significant change. "Proof of Work" documents a year-long journey Franzreb undertook during the cryptocurrency boom and shows a cross-section of this world: from basement miners to industrial mining farms, from installations, cooling units, cable forests and industrial ruins in Russia to the first high-tech factories with sustainable production in Sweden. Franzreb's images are complemented by texts written by two art experts.

The photographs are going on an exhibition tour; they can be seen at the Städtische Galerie im Leeren Beutel in Regensburg until February 4.
