The Campus Cup begins with the participants having to draw up a business plan in order to think through a company start-up and identify planning deficits. This is presented to the investors in order to win them over for the financing.
In the competition, however, it became apparent that the temptation to deviate from the original strategy is very great when the competitor groups are exerting pressure. Two teams started with the premium strategy, one team with the cost leadership strategy and one with the intermediate strategy. This team realized very quickly that it had to position itself more clearly and also pursued the strategy of cost leadership. This made it possible to show the respective differences very well during the discussion of the results, which also contributed to understanding.
The final company presentations took place in front of all participants to ensure more transparency in the assessment and to increase the learning effect for everyone. This was acknowledged accordingly in the final evaluation. Due to the final presentation, the competition was only decided in a photo finish. The winning team (Wave Rider 3) only had one point more than the second and third place finishers. Team 4 was also only 3 points behind the winner.
In the evaluation, all participants confirmed the benefits of this business game and that these two days were really fun. Some statements: "was (a lot of) fun"; “interesting game that makes you want to actively participate”; "The Campus Cup was a lot of fun and conveyed business administration content in a very practical way".
