30.03.2023, Press Release :

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) in Cape Town, South Africa, has appointed Prof. Dr. Dany Meyer as an associate professor. The appointment recognizes the experience and expertise of the HNU professor of software engineering, who will now drive further joint projects as an academic member of the South African partner university and help shape her department in research and teaching.

Effective March 07, 2023, Prof. Dr. Dany Meyer joins the UWC for the next three years in research and teaching, thesis supervision, and academic program development in the Departments of Computer Science and Information Systems. Prof. Dr. Dany Meyer, who teaches and conducts research at HNU's Department of Information Management, has been working intensively with the UWC on research projects for several years and is a member of HNU's Africa Institute and the Center for Data Science and Business Analytics. Her research focuses on improving the teaching of software engineering as well as the development and application of machine learning algorithms.

"I am very excited to continue our diverse projects with UWC and to contribute to further developing the collaboration between HNU and UWC," says Prof. Dr. Dany Meyer. "For our students, the cooperation with the UWC offers quite inspiring opportunities to gain first international experiences professionally and also to get to know such a wonderful country as South Africa more from an inside perspective."

For Prof. Dr. Thomas Bayer, Director of the Africa Institute, the nomination of Prof. Dr. Dany Meyer is a significant honor for the proven university cooperation: "We at the Africa Institute are particularly pleased that the long-standing, good relations with the UWC have reached a new high point with this nomination of Prof. Dr. Dany Meyer as an associate professor. We wish the colleague much success and exciting new projects for her work in the field."

In addition to her academic duties, Prof. Dr. Dany Meyer has been committed to promoting young scientists in the field of computer science for many years. As the university's deputy women's representative, the promotion of women in STEM fields is a particular concern of hers. In 2020, the professor received the HNU Award for Digital Teaching. With the conception and implementation of summer schools and research camps for female students, she inspires young people for STEM topics and encourages especially young girls and women on their way into the fascinating and diverse world of computer science.
