The HNU sustainability tree has borne fruit

06.12.2022, University News :

Since the summer of 2022, students as well as employees of Neu-Ulm University (HNU) had the opportunity to express their wishes and suggestions on the topic of sustainability in the tree crown of the sustainability tree in the library. After half a year, many ideas and suggestions are found, which are now taken up and discussed by the steering committee sustainability.

Improving waste separation, providing disinfectant in the restrooms, or even installing a water dispenser or drinking fountain: the ideas range from concepts that have already been implemented, such as a clothing exchange, to new ideas and challenges, such as expanding public transportation.

"We welcome ideas and suggestions from employees and students. This allows us to see concretely where we need to start and what needs exist," says Matthias Wimmer, who has been supporting HNU as climate protection manager since December 1, 2022. "The topic of water dispensers has also already been brought to HNU from various sides, which again shows that the need for action is great," adds Karen Füller, library employee and initiator of the tree.

The ideas and suggestions will be taken up by the Sustainability Steering Committee in 2023 and discussed with the relevant departments. Together, they will examine what can be implemented in the short term and where there are challenges or what can be implemented in the medium and long term. The goal is to further promote sustainability at HNU and to advance it together with and in the interest of the various stakeholders.
