The BRIAS coordinators from the University of Bayreuth, the University of Würzburg, the Ingolstadt University of Technology and the HNU exchanged their experiences and the handling of corona-related restrictions in their projects and in the numerous African target countries of BRIAS.
The fast and broad acceptance of digital teaching and collaboration formats ensures a high degree of continuity of work and communication in many projects. At the same time it is also a driver for innovative ideas - such as going on topic-related virtual excursions with German students in cooperation with African partners or supporting student African innovators with start-up ideas through online coaching from Germany. However, due to the corona crisis, necessary field research on site and planned stays abroad of researchers from African countries in Germany suffer enormously from the current restrictions. Therefore a general meeting of the numerous researchers in BRIAS projects at one of the 4 university locations is planned for mid 2021.
The Bavarian Research Institute for African Studies (BRIAS) was founded in 2013 as a cooperation of the 4 universities mentioned above in order to make the scientific expertise of the participating universities more visible at the key points of politics and society.
