ICIS is the most important conference in the field of information systems and offers researchers and practitioners a platform to present and discuss findings, theories and technologies. Organised annually by the Association for Information Systems (AIS), the conference addresses a variety of topics such as data analysis, artificial intelligence, digital transformation and IT strategies and promotes the exchange between science and practice. A team of leading international researchers, newly elected to the conference chair and programme committee, ensures the quality and relevance of the conference. Prof Dr Heiko Gewald is the third German and first representative of a university of applied sciences to be appointed to the ICIS management team. He worked together with Prof Dr Andrew Schwarz from Louisiana State University (USA) and Prof Dr Assadaporn Sapsomboon from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok.
Milestone for HaW positioning in the field of business informatics
The three conference co-chairs have overall responsibility for the organization of the conference. This ranges from managing the more than 50 colleagues involved, planning the program and selecting the scientific contributions to managing the seven-figure conference budget.
“It was a great honour that the AIS entrusted me with the responsibility for organizing the ICIS. The preparatory work took more than four years and can only be accomplished with a great team and trustworthy colleagues,” summarizes Prof. Dr. Heiko Gewald. “We are delighted that we were able to achieve the second-highest number of participants at an ICIS after ICIS 2019 in Munich. The outstanding academic level is also reflected in the lowest acceptance rate of the submitted papers. We are pleased to be able to confirm ICIS as the only conference in information systems with an 'A' ranking.”
For HNU, the appointment of the HNU researcher to the steering committee of an ICIS was a special honor, the first time a member of a university of applied sciences has received this honor. “Our many years of intensive development work in scientific research at HNU are bearing fruit,” said HNU President Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser. “HNU is being recognized in research and is an integral part of the field of business informatics internationally. We are delighted with Professor Gewald's outstanding success and the positive impact his work has had on HNU."
