Prof Dr Dr Rudolf Thomas Inderst is an expert in game studies. He specialises in the field of critical game analysis. After completing his Master's degree in Political Science, American Studies and Modern and Contemporary History at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich, he completed his doctorate on communalisation in online role-playing games at the LMU and on the representation of science, research and technology in digital games at the University of Passau. This was followed by various teaching assignments at different universities. Among other things, he has already worked as a lecturer for the "Marketing" module in the Game Production and Management degree programme at HNU.
Prof Dr Dr Rudolf Inderst has held numerous positions in his career to date. He worked for several years as International Community Strategist at the German game distributor Plaion (formerly Koch Media) in Planegg near Munich. He was responsible for titles such as Iron Harvest, Shenmue 3, Metro Exodus and Kingdom Come Deliverance.
Prof Dr Dr Rudolf Thomas Inderst is also active as a journalist: He heads the 'Digital Game Culture' department at TITEL kulturmagazin, is a member of the advisory board for game culture at the German Association of Specialised Journalists and founder of the international podcast 'Game Studies'.
"I am very much looking forward to working with the professors at HNU and am keen to engage in dialogue with the students and work on exciting projects," says Prof. Dr Dr Rudolf Thomas Inderst. "My mission is to anchor critical game analysis for the development of sustainable game literacy in the minds of young people. I am working towards ensuring that in addition to game design, i.e. the design and production of games, and gaming, i.e. the playful activity with the medium, the knowledge-oriented investigation of the phenomenon of games is also a matter of course."
Prof. Michael Hebel, Head of the Game Production and Management degree programme, is delighted about the increase in game lecturers at HNU: “We see game design as a holistic task in which Game Studies plays a significant role. With Prof Dr Dr Rudolf Thomas Inderst, we are gaining a personality who can offer our students both insights into the work of a publisher and a new design-researching mindset in their design work.”
