HNU students design barrier-free website for Nivea

07.08.2024, Study:

From holders for cream jars to handles for deodorant sprays - Nivea is for everyone. Under this motto, students at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) on the Information Management and Corporate Communication (IMUK) course developed concepts for an accessible Nivea website in the summer semester of 2024. The aim is to enable people with disabilities to find and order functional accessories for various products.

Inclusive website concepts
The website is aimed at people with disabilities and offers Nivea accessories specially tailored to their needs. The website concepts should enable people with disabilities to order items from the so-called Accessible Toolkit, which facilitate the use of various Nivea products. The students worked closely with Beiersdorf to design innovative solutions. The students on the "Media Design 3" course focused in particular on ensuring that the website complies with the "Web Content Accessibility Guidelines" in order to be user-friendly and inclusive.

Better solutions through new perspectives
From the outset, the project aimed to be as inclusive as possible and to be a pioneer for accessibility. Prof. Danny Franzreb and Sven Ruoff led the lecture and supported the students in developing the website. Jenny Behnk, Brand Identity Manager at Nivea, supervised the practical project on behalf of Nivea. "The collaboration with the students and Prof. Franzreb enabled NIVEA to combine various new perspectives and expertise. This can only lead to creative and better solutions. I am enthusiastic about the commitment and cooperation with the HNU, look forward to further projects and would like to thank the students for the very cooperative partnership."
