HNU signs cooperation agreement with Uganda Management Institute

01.07.2024, Press Release :

Sensitizing African students to the use of IT in logistics: This is the aim of the cooperation project "Digital Logistic Services and Entrepreneurship" (DLSE), which Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU), under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dany Meyer, is currently carrying out with the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) in Kampala, Uganda. The two educational institutions have now intensified their cooperation during a joint project week in the form of a general cooperation agreement. HNU President Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser and UMI lecturer Oluka Pross Nagitta signed the letter of intent during the HNU Africa Day on June 11.

HNU has been maintaining partnerships in Africa for almost 20 years, including collaborations with South Africa and Uganda. The DLSE project is a new highlight of this international cooperation: the existing Master's degree program "Big Data in Logistics" at the University of Western Cape (UWC) - also a cooperation project with HNU - will be expanded to include an entrepreneurial dimension and transferred to the UMI. The aim is to equip students with skills in the field of digital services, prepare them for economic challenges and promote innovative entrepreneurial thinking. The HNU will provide the UMI with its expertise in the areas of logistics and supply chains (LSC), entrepreneurship and start-up activities, accompany the curricular implementation and support the use of applied teaching.

For sustainable economic development: partnership with transformative potential

With this objective, the project strengthens the economic independence of African countries and plays a key role in the planned expansion of cooperation between the UWC, the UMI and HNU. "DLSE contributes to changes in the regional logistics and business landscape - this is how we can promote sustainable development and economic growth locally," explains project manager Prof. Dr.-Ing. "As a very committed and open cooperation partner, the UMI is paving the way for transformation on the African continent."
