How can farmers with a limited workforce be supported? How can supply chains be shortened? In the cross-university hackathon "Agri Hack", 28 students from Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) developed solutions for agriculture worldwide together with students from Tel-Hai College and Shenkar College in Israel and the University of West Attica in Greece.

At the digital hackathon on January 15, students from the Digital Innovation Management (M.Sc.) and Digital Transformation and Global Entrepreneurship (M.Sc.) master's degree programs worked in several teams, with each team tackling a different challenge in the field of agriculture. Particular attention was paid to the question of how to prevent economic losses in Israeli agriculture due to the lack of access to the fields and the shortage of labor. The hackathon was organized by Mira Hershkovitz, Director of Entrepreneurship and Development at Tel-Hai College; Prof. Dr. Klaus Lang supervised the project on behalf of HNU. The non-profit organization Israel AgriFood-Tech Valley also took part in the hackathon and provided valuable information on the topic of agriculture.

Insightful hackathon with long-standing university partners

"We maintain long-standing and trusting friendships with our partners in Israel, even in difficult times. Joint projects such as the Agri-Hack show once again the contribution that science can make to solving current challenges," said Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser, President of HNU.

Prof. Dr. Klaus Lang added: "The hackathon was a very good learning experience for the students, both on a professional and personal level. In addition to deep insights into a highly topical subject, the participants' intercultural skills were also strengthened."
