Drive-in cinema instead of evening dress: HNU honours graduates

19.10.2020, Press Release :

155 HNU alumni celebrated their graduation on Friday 16 October 2020 together with family members and friends in the drive-in cinema organised by HNU in the car park of ratiopharm arena. A total of 400 guests were on site.

Since the last graduate gala, which took place in June 2019 at the Maritim Ulm, around 800 successful graduates had left Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences. Due to the pandemic, the HNU alumni could not be bid farewell as usual. Therefore, the event management of the university developed an unusual format for these unusual times. The motto of the evening was "drive-in cinema instead of evening dress".

A security concept coordinated with the Neu-Ulm public order office ensured that all corona measures were adhered to. A total of 400 guests were admitted, so not all of the 800 or so graduates invited were able to attend.

Minister of State Dr. Florian Herrmann and the Bavarian Minister of Science Bernd Sibler addressed the guests in a video message. HNU President Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser spoke live to the alumni in her welcome address: "Our goal at HNU is to train you not only as internationally experienced specialists and managers, but also as solution-oriented thinking and responsible acting specialists and managers. Once we have achieved this goal, it will enable you to act faster and more professionally in crises, not just to react". Also speaking on site were Lord Mayor Katrin Albsteiger and Günter Augustin, the Chairman of the HNU-Förderverein.

Despite the unusual event format, the traditional hat tossing also took place. The certificates were handed over to the graduates in the drive-through at the end of the event.

Franziska Reith, graduate of the Master's programme International Corporate Communications and Media Management, was honoured for her outstanding Master's thesis. The HNU congratulates her on the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences Prize, which is awarded by the Förderverein of the HNU.

The performance by illusionist Florian Zimmer and the musical accompaniment of the jazz trio "two or company" rounded off the evening from a cultural point of view.
