"Ergo-Guide" project with AOK Günzburg promotes student health at HNU

04.07.2024, Study :

Specific promotion of student health through exercise: The Faculty of Health Management at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) announces the launch of the pioneering "Ergo-Guide" project in collaboration with AOK Günzburg. As part of a free training course, students acquire the knowledge to take an active role in promoting the health of their fellow students and thus make a valuable contribution to the study culture.

In this cooperation with AOK Günzburg, students from different courses and semesters are encouraged to take five-minute active breaks during lectures. These phases include movement exercises aimed at activating the muscles, stimulating the cardiovascular system and thus improving the students' concentration and performance.

On June 28, the first students from the Faculty of Health Management successfully completed the Ergo-Guide training course and received a certificate. Another free training course is planned for the winter semester. Graduates who wish to do so will be given the opportunity to implement short movement exercises in lectures.

"Our 'Ergo-Guide' project aims to help students recognize at an early stage the positive influence that physical activity and exercise have on concentration and performance during their studies," explains Ottmar Pfanz-Sponagel, sports teacher at AOK Günzburg. "Students who actively participate in these exercises will maintain this healthy habit in their later professional life and thus actively contribute to promoting health in the workplace."

To ensure that the exercises are carried out professionally, participating students receive two hours of training from Ottmar Pfanz-Sponagel, who is an expert in the field of training Ergo-Guides. Students who would like to obtain a certificate can register at any time. The next training date will be announced in time for the start of the winter semester in October.

Prof. Dr. Mario Pfannstiel from the Faculty of Health Management at HNU supports the project scientifically and emphasizes the importance of health promotion in educational institutions. "It certainly takes courage to lead such exercises in front of your fellow students, but this is a valuable experience for the students." The scientific support ensures that the implementation and impact of the project can be continuously monitored and improved. "Our special thanks also go to Prof. Dr. Sylvia Schafmeister, Dean of the Faculty of Health Management, who was open to this project and immediately agreed to its implementation," adds Prof. Pfannstiel. The project partners aim to thoroughly examine and evaluate the impact and success of the project on the students as part of one or more academic theses.
