Monolithic or component-based system landscapes of clinical workplace systems (KAS) each have their specific advantages and disadvantages. While the lower risks of integration speak in favour of some, others see greater flexibility as a plus point. The authors were interested in the extent to which the concepts prove themselves in practice. Therefore, a comparison of radiological IT systems from the user's point of view was made between four different installations.
The result was that the monolithic approach is advantageous for the clinical user. Unidirectional interfaces do not completely solve user requirements, since work interruptions usually require a re-call of the previous systems. Due to the small number of cases, this paper cannot give definitive answers, but it gives a good indication of the conditions from the clinician's point of view.
