Network meeting offers insights into research alliance between Bavaria and Queensland

13.02.2025, Research:

To mark the first anniversary of the Bavaria-Queensland Research Alliance, a network meeting was held in Munich on 10 February 2025, hosted by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Munich and Upper Bavaria together with Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ). Prof Dr Marten Risius, Spitzenprofessor at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) and member of the research alliance commission, was among the 70 or so participants from business and science.

The research alliance was founded in 2024 with the aim of promoting long-term strategic cooperation between universities and industry and business partners in Bavaria and Queensland. The Bavaria-Queensland Research Alliance thus strengthens the international scientific impact and reputation of both regions.

The network meeting offered insights into the four Development Grants that will be funded as part of the first round of calls for proposals in 2024/25. In short presentations, the scientists presented the selected projects, which are being carried out in cooperation with industrial partners from Bavaria and Queensland and are dedicated to topics such as the use of 3D printing processes in medicine or the use of bio-based plastics to reduce e-waste. The ten current seed grant projects were also presented. A poster exhibition enabled direct dialogue with researchers on the focus topics of the Bavaria-Queensland Research Alliance.

The Bavaria Queensland Research Alliance is a joint initiative of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts (StMWK) and the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DETSI) in Queensland and is coordinated by the University of Bayreuth.
