Ambassador of the Republic of Panama visits HNU

05.05.2023, University News :

The Ambassador of the Republic of Panama in Germany, H.E. Enrique Alberto Thayer Hausz, was a guest at Neu-Ulm University (HNU) on May 02, 2023. He informed himself about possibilities for student exchange and met with the university administration as well as the International Office. The program of the diplomatic visit also included a meeting with the mayor of Neu-Ulm, Katrin Albsteiger.

H.E. Enrique Alberto Thayer Hausz was received by HNU Vice President Prof. Dr. Elmar Steurer, who, together with the head of the International Office (IO), provided insights into the university's student exchange program and guided the guest through Founders Space.

For his part, H.E. Enrique Alberto Thayer Hausz reported on recent developments in his country, which - in contrast to many other countries in the region - is characterized by high political stability and low inflation and does not experience political unrest. The ambassador compared Panama to Singapore in the 1980s. He expected a similar positive development for his country. At the same time, he emphasized the high potential for improvement in the education sector: lecturers are being sought; plans for student exchanges are being intensified. In this context, the ambassador introduced Panama's three leading universities.

The diplomatic visit made possible synergies of a cooperation between HNU and universities in Panama visible; for example, in the field of economics and health management, especially in the study program Physician Assistant.
