Prof. Dr. El­mar Steurer is new HNU Vice Pres­id­ent for Re­search, Trans­fer and In­ter­na­tion­al­iz­a­tion

Neu-Ulm University has a new vice president since January 01, 2022: The University Council elected Prof. Dr. Elmar Steurer, Professor of Finance and Controlling at Neu-Ulm University (HNU) since 2011 and until recently Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, to serve for the next two and a half years. 

Together with President Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser, Vice President Prof. Dr. Julia Kormann, Vice President Prof. Dr. Sylvia Schafmeister and Chancellor Markus Dingel, Prof. Dr. Elmar Steurer will in future serve on the university's Executive Board, where he will represent the areas of research, transfer and internationalization as second vice president. For Steurer, this is already the third term of office: he was Vice President of HNU from 2013 to 2017, before moving to the position of Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics. "With Prof. Dr. Elmar Steurer, the university management gains an experienced colleague who will successfully continue the areas of research, transfer and internationalization and set new impulses," said HNU President Prof. Dr. Uta M. Feser, welcoming the election.

One goal of the new vice president: the expansion of entrepreneurship and innovation management

"I am grateful for the confidence expressed and look forward to contributing to the shaping of a sustainable university in my new role," Prof. Dr. Steurer explained. He sees the most important tasks for the future located in particular in the area of entrepreneurship and innovation management: "Our university is a strong partner in and for the region. It is my concern to further promote this role of HNU as a strategic innovation partner as well as a moderator and facilitator for social change processes in the region." The industrial engineer with a doctorate also plans to intensify international university cooperation in the area of research and to expand research management.

Prof. Dr. Elmar Steurer was presented to the University Council as an election candidate on 08 October 2021 and elected to office by postal vote on 02 November 2021.

Personal details
After graduating with a degree in industrial engineering, the trained banker earned his doctorate (Dr. rer. pol.) from the University of Karlsruhe (TH). Prof. Dr. Elmar Steurer began his professional career as a risk management officer in the research department and as group head for country and bank risks in the finance department at DaimlerChrysler AG. Subsequently, he held the position of group leader for currency and commodity risks in the controlling department at BMW AG. Before accepting the professorship for business administration with a focus on controlling at Neu-Ulm University, he was responsible for financing activities via the capital market for RWE AG.
