New elective course: „Lions Den – Design Thinking & Lean Startup for Innovations in Africa“

09.09.2020, Study :

In the new elective course "Lions Den - Design Thinking & Lean Startup for Innovations in Africa" students learn about innovative ideas in an African context, develop their own ideas and present their concepts to a jury as in the German TV show "Höhle der Löwen" ("The Lion's Den").

Emerging markets such as many African countries are home to a growing number of consumers worldwide as well as production facilities for local and global markets. Developing these markets requires not only market knowledge, but also creativity, the ability to think outside the box and a healthy dose of pragmatism.

Together with the experts from the Africa Institute, Prof. Dr. Thomas Bayer offers the subject, which has been assessed with three ECTS, in English for 30 students from all bachelor's degree programs.

In addition to an introduction to growth markets, the basics of innovation management and product development, students develop business and/or product concepts in groups. Creativity methods and design thinking are also an important part of the course. In addition, the participants can look forward to impulses from market experts. The elective course ends with the presentation of business and product concepts to a jury of the Africa Institute of the HNU - the "Lion's Den".

All information on the new elective can be found on the intranet.
