Everyone's talking about digitisation

25.11.2019, Centre for Growth and Sales Strategy :

Everyone is talking about digitisation. But what exactly are we talking about? What is going on there that makes this topic so explosive for the economy, politics and society? So far, only a few people have asked themselves this - perhaps somewhat banal - question.

Alexander Kornegger, Managing Director of the management consultancy Think Open GmbH and leading expert in digital strategies and business models, followed Prof. Dr. Alexander Kracklauer's invitation and took up this topic in the winter semester 2019/2020 for a guest lecture at the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences. He presented the students with a model of thought he had developed to explain the economic explosiveness of digitisation. He calls his approach "bitisation". Behind this is the central idea that in the course of digitisation, elementary business management paradigms are broken down into their individual parts in order to put them together again. "In my business studies, I learned that you first choose the provider, then the product and then you buy it," says Kornegger. "This no longer applies in the digital age. Today, I look for a specific product and then select the supplier according to the best price or the best delivery conditions. Only then does the purchase take place". Using these and many other practical examples, he explained what makes the big winners of digitisation, such as Uber and AirBnB, so successful.

"Such guest lectures are a valuable part of a practice-oriented education," said Prof. Dr. Alexander Kracklauer. "Theoretical lectures can be supplemented by practical impulses and thus round off the range of courses on offer".
