Di­gi­Health In­sti­tute presents at Med­ical In­form­at­ics Europe Con­fer­ence 2024 in Athens

A team from the DigiHealth Institute at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) has traveled to Athens to take part in the 34th Medical Informatics Europe Conference (MIE2024). There, the HNU researchers contributed several presentations and scientific posters on the conference theme “Digital Health & Informatics Innovations for Sustainable Health Care Systems”. Their contributions covered a broad spectrum - from deep learning in tumor detection to mobile health apps and the digital transformation of the healthcare system in Africa.

The annual event organized by the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) took place from 25 to 29 August 2024 at the Eugenides Foundation in Athens, Greece.

Dr. Felix Holl and Daniel Hieber, research assistants at HNU, and HNU graduate Anna Heindl represented the DigiHealth Institute at the event. The HNU researchers presented their current research results in a total of two lectures and three posters:

  • Lecture: “Comparison of nnU-Net and deepflash2 for histopathological tumor segmentation” (Daniel Hieber, Nico Haisch, Gregor Grambow, Felix Holl, Friederike Liesche-Starnecker, Rüdiger Pryss, Jürgen Schlegel, Johannes Schobel)

  • Poster: “Insights into the quality of mobile health apps: Preliminary results of an analysis of MARS scores” (Hendrik Lef, Walter Swoboda, Johannes Schobel, Daniel Hieber, Felix Holl)
  • Poster: “Digital transformation of healthcare in Africa: First results of a study on success. Factors and barriers for the implementation of mHealth in South Africa and Tanzania” (Felix Holl, Sandra Blessing, Felix Sukums, Peter Kuhn)
  • Poster: “The effect of a mobile-based intervention on physicians' ordering behavior for laboratory tests” (Fateme Shojaeezadea, Zahra Meidani, Hossein Akbari, Ehasn Nabovat, Davood Kheirkhan, Felix Holl)
