“Ageing gracefully with technology - are we ready?": This was the guiding question of the artiso INNO DAY 2024 on October 22, 2024, which offered a platform for exchange on digital solutions for an ageing society with expert presentations, showcases and discussions. Prof. Dr. Johannes Schobel, Research Professor for Digital Medicine and Care at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU), gave the audience a comprehensive insight into digital health applications and presented a current research project on intelligent fall detection.

The event, organized by artiso solutions GmbH, focused on digital solutions that can meet the growing need for home care and assistance in times of demographic change. In addition to Prof. Dr. Johannes Schobel and Antonio Bruno from artiso, the speakers also included Prof. Dr. Dr. Manfred Spitzer, Medical Director of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy III at Ulm University Hospital.

How digitalization is transforming the healthcare sector: Potentials and stumbling blocks

In his lecture “How digitalization is transforming the healthcare system”, Prof. Dr. Johannes Schobel highlighted the potential of mHealth solutions in particular, which - now ubiquitous and versatile - offer many opportunities to increase safety and efficiency. On the other hand, he pointed out the hurdles facing the healthcare sector when it comes to digitalization, including data protection concerns, strict legal and regulatory requirements and complex medical data. Research and practical projects, particularly in the field of AI and machine learning, are often confronted with a lack of data quality and availability.

More safety in your own home: intelligent fall detection for senior citizens

With stand-by.care, the HNU research professor also presented a current research project in which he is developing a user-friendly and innovative solution for intelligent fall detection for senior citizens together with practice partner artiso solutions GmbH: Using an adapter system for household appliances, interruptions in the daily activity profile of those affected can be detected so that relatives can be informed directly about possible emergencies. “Stand-by.care” won the Innovation Sprint competition of the German Agency for Transfer and Innovation (DATI) and is funded as part of the DATIpilot program.

artiso INNO DAY brings together innovative ideas and solutions

Digitalization and the meaningful integration of AI are crucial for the future of care and healthcare: this was the conclusion drawn by the organizers after the artiso INNO DAY. As the speakers also showed in their presentations, the digital transformation of the healthcare system is complex - but offers great opportunities for greater efficiency, convenience and safety.
